Following an international call for tender process dated November 6, 2024, initiated by the JICA Cote d’Ivoire office, the NGO Oceans Friends International was selected to lead the work on developing legislative texts and aquaculture regulations for the sustainable development of aquaculture in Cote d’’Ivoire and Ghana.
The increase in aquaculture production in West Africa presents risks linked to the consumption of Water and Energy but also health risks: The high density, the proximity of farms to each other and residential areas, increase the risk of the development of pathogens, pollution and diseases; Rigorous management of water quality and inputs remains essential.
In such a context, the promotion and improvement of the legislative and regulatory framework for the development of aquaculture in West Africa is more than essential.
Mr Séraphin DEDI, Executive Director of the NGO Oceans Friends International, signed the memorandum of understanding on November 29, 2024, at the JICA premises.
